Age Requirements for SBR's - Short Barreled Rifles

The ATF rules dictate that you must be at least 21 years of age to purchase an already manufactured SBR - short barreled rifle from a dealer. Conversely, you only need to be 18 to purchase a SBR if you are transferring the SBR from an individual.  You are also able to at the of 18 or above able to manufacture a SBR using an already owned lower receiver.  This can be done using the ATF 5320.1 paper form.  The ATF 5320.1 paper form takes on average 5 to 7 months to be approved by the ATF.  You can also use the new ATF eForm 1 to apply for the ATF Form 1 stamp.  Using the ATF's eForm 1 website, you are able to get an approval ranging from ~8 days to ~30 days on average.  This drastically reduces your wait time.  Note:  You aren't able to fully manufacture your SBR until the ATF has sent your approved tax stamp in the mail or approved your tax stamp using their eForm website.
